The FDA Tells CPAP Users That SoClean Ozone Cleaning Solutions Are Not Legally Marketed

Class action lawsuits blame the SoClean Ozone cleaning solution for causing the Phillips CPAP problems

Friday, January 14, 2022 - If any chemical or device could be reasonably expected to cause asthma, coughs, excess mucous, headaches, and possibly lung diseases as severe as lung cancer, it would be using a dirty, toxic, and contaminated sleep apnea machine. Keeping a sleep apnea machine clean is critical as nothing could be more harmful to one's health than continuously breathing toxic, carcinogenic contaminates all night long, night after night. The need for cleaning the airways of the millions of sleep apnea machines that are in use was addressed by the SoClean company. There is a possibility that the problems that Royal Phillips CPAP sleep apnea machines experienced, those being the noise-abatement foam deteriorating, may have been caused by the unapproved cleaning solution that customers used to clean their machines. Hundreds of sleep apnea sufferers have filed Phillips CPAP cancer lawsuits seeking to hold the company accountable for their negligence.

The SoClean cleaning solution company uses a form of activated oxygen to clean CPAP systems. SoClean tells potential air cleaning customers on their website, " (We have) pioneered the world's most advanced and safe technologies for killing viruses and bacteria and for capturing contaminants from the air we breathe, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals that have no place in our homes or our world," an extremely bold declaration in the age of pandemic viruses that we live in. SoClean.com. tells sleep apnea machine customers that their "activated oxygen" method of cleaning the Phillips sleep apnea machine would disinfect the CPAP's mask, tubing, headgear and water chamber as follows: "SoClean uses activated oxygen to destroy 99.9% of germs and bacteria that can harbor in your CPAP equipment. Used once a day the SoClean will keep your CPAP equipment safe and free from contaminants." Although scientists at SoClean swear by their O2 cleaning system technology, people over at the US Food and Drug Administration are not so sure. The FDA issued a Phillips CPAP recall and has come out against the cleaning solution as being experimental, untested, and dangerous.

The FDA tells users of sleep apnea machines that want to use the SoClean cleaning solution to be careful as the technology could potentially do more harm than good. The FDA writes in a publication titled:, "FDA Reminds Patients that Devices Claiming to Clean, Disinfect or Sanitize CPAP Machines Using Ozone Gas or UV Light Have Not Been FDA Authorized," that they do not endorse the SoClean cleaning technology. The FDA went further to explain that if one is exposed to high levels of 02 gas severe injuries could occur. The FDA is currently investigating companies like SoClean that manufacture 02 Ozone cleaning solutions and marketing them as safe. The FDA writes, "Exposure to high levels of ozone gas may worsen a patients' existing chronic respiratory diseases or increase the chance of a respiratory infection. UV light-based products could cause burns, eye damage or increase the risk of skin cancer due to over-exposure. The FDA has contacted manufacturers of products making these claims and asked them to submit data demonstrating their safety and effectiveness."
